1. What's made with AI on ExpiredMarks

  • Comeback card text: the one-line business idea, the hook and the short write-up on editorial cards.
  • Community card text: the idea written when a visitor creates a community card.
  • Name screening: AI helps us screen out names that look like a person's name or a famous brand before we write a card.

AI-written text is labeled on the page, for example "AI-assisted write-up" or "AI-generated idea, made by a visitor."

2. What's not made with AI

  • USPTO record data: mark names, numbers, owners, classes, dates and statuses. These come from USPTO data.
  • Status lines like "Registration cancelled per USPTO on March 4, 2024." These come straight from the record.
  • Domain checks. These come from public RDAP data.

3. How we check AI text

  • Editorial cards are drafted with AI, then run through automated wording rules (no claims that a name is available, no legal advice, no negative labels for past brands) and a check for a live USPTO registration of the same name.
  • Community cards are published right away and labeled "Not yet reviewed by ExpiredMarks" until we review them. Anyone can ask for a correction or takedown by emailing support@expiredmarks.com.
  • AI text can still be wrong. It isn't legal, financial, tax or trademark advice.
  • AI text is written never to say a name is available, and makes no earnings claims.
  • It's written to make no factual claims about past owners.

4. Our AI provider

  • We use Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, PBC.
  • It gets public USPTO mark data and, for community cards, the category and tone the visitor picked. It doesn't get your account data, email address or IP address.
  • Under Anthropic's commercial terms for its API, it doesn't use what we send to train its models.

5. Brocius, sold separately

  • Brocius (brocius.com) is a DBA of Jack's Inventory Consulting, LLC, the same company that operates ExpiredMarks. It is a separate service, sold on brocius.com under that site's own terms and privacy policy, not by ExpiredMarks.
  • ExpiredMarks links to Brocius and may track those referrals. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
  • Brocius offers AI business answers ($10/month for 50 questions, with 3 free questions to start), documents ($10 for members, $25 for non-members) and the Advisors membership ($249/month).
  • A business plan or any Brocius answer never makes a name or mark safe to use and is not legal advice. Brocius is not the ExpiredMarks research tool described above.
